What is Fauve?

Fauve or Fauvism, translated from French, as beastly or wild animal, is the style of art given to the group of artists such as Matisse and Derain. It is said, that the term fauve, was coined by the crowd's reaction that attended the exhibits- referring to the beastly look of the paintings which portrayed works in bright vivid colors and highly expressive bold lines. Although the crowd of the time, considered it beastly, the population has clearly fallen in love since then. The works convey a sense of peace and serenity. It is said that the works of fauvist art can cure and sooth. In fact, Matisse, one of the fathers of the Fauve movement, would lend his paintings to friends that were ill in order to help them feel better.

Fauvist art incorporates bold lines, pure color, patterns that rarely repeat, subtle beauty and simple, sometimes abstract translation of the every day. But Fauve can also be a feeling. 
It can be a casual appeal, a relaxed deep breath, a feeling of joy in everyday. An obsession.

About the Designer

My name is Rivkah. I am an Immigrant to the United States and received my degrees in Mathematics and Anthropology from Florida Atlantic University. I have worked as a Fine Artist, exhibiting my works in group and solo exhibitions throughout the Pacific Northwest. My focus is abstract impressionism or fauvism. I am inspired by the fauve movement and my creations bring not just my paintings to life but the works of Matisse and other Fauve's. Similar to the artists of this mod era, you will find inspirations from Paris, France, Morocco and the Middle East. In this classic style, you will find bold lines, pure color, patterns that rarely repeat, and simple, sometimes abstract translations of the every day onto fashion.
